John Celestri is Old School

Don't believe me? Check out his blog.

by in Animation

John Celestri tipped me off to his new blog. He said, “I’ve been a professional animator since 1974, so I’m old school.” I couldn’t have said it better than that. Check out his new blog for lots of advice and goodies for the hand drawn purist in you.

Anim Dailies Blog

Professional animation feedback for free

by in Animation

Brad Silby informs us of a new blog, Anim Dailies, which he’s put together with a group of professional animators. It’s designed to simulate animation dailies, a daily stop on the schedule of every production where artists get feedback from their supervisors. It’s a welcome addition to the animation blogsphere, and a great opportunity for aspiring animators that can’t afford programs like Animation Mentor to get professional feedback on their work and progress a little faster than normal. There’s a few reviews up already, and Brad says more will follow in the next few days. Check it out.

Pixar artists receive feedback from Lee Unkrich at animation dailies on Toy Story 3.

Kent Melton

Sculptor

by in Inspiration

Kent has been a sculptor in the animation industry for years, working at both Disney and Pixar. His work is really inspiring. Kent sculpted this Freddie Moore girl (or so I’m told) I posted about last year, which is absolutely gorgeous. Check out his blog for more inspiration.

Animator Letters Project

Get inspiration and encouragement from your peers

by in Animation

Fellow AM student Willie Downs has come up with a fantastic idea to chronicle and eventually publish inspirational correspondence between animators. I think this would make for some incredibly interesting reading as well as historical documentation. Especially if some of the now “vintage” examples could be dug up. Hopefully enough people can spread the word and we can all bare witness to the birth of yet another truly inspirational stop on the blogsphere for artists and animators alike. Good luck Willie!
